The
British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, or BACP, define counselling as:
“Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change or enhance their wellbeing.”
Therapy provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns.
I will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others around you.
I work both in English & Punjabi – having an insight to the complexities that clients experience within small communities.
After the initial consultation, and if we are mutually suited to be working with each other, I always suggest an investment of an initial six session. We will collaboratively review after the six sessions and agree a way forward. Sessions can be anything between 4 for i.e presenting issues around anxiety, stress management to 18+ sessions for trauma, sexual trauma etc. Everything is dependent on the psychological mindedness and engagement of the client.
I will not give you my opinions or advice or prescribe medication. I will support you to find your own solutions – whether that’s making effective changes in your life or finding ways of coping with your problems.
It is really important within this therapeutic relationship we are able to build a trusting relationship where you feel comfortable enough to talk about the difficulties you are experiencing. We never know what is going to emerge within this process. I am committed to holding you through this process.
